Safety first

TUVThere are as yet no legal requirements in the Benelux countries concerning the installation of LCD monitors in existing headrests. There are regulations governing the safety of R17 car seats and R21 internal components in new cars, with which car manufacturers must comply.

The installation of monitors in existing car seats has an adverse effect on the strength of the seats. There are a number of countries in which the stringent safety regulations also apply when monitors are installed in existing car seats.

Eurologics has been working together with the prestigious German test institute TÜV to develop tests, which could provide a basis for type approval in such cases. Safety is the primary consideration here: when a driver brakes suddenly, rear-seat passengers could bang their heads on the monitor in the headrest in front of them, while integration of the monitor in the headrest can reduce the protection the latter provides for front-seat passengers.
